Happy Birthday America!

Happy Birthday America!

July 4, 2019 will mark the 243rd year that America adopted the “Declaration of Independence” and claimed its independence from Great Britain. The Continental Congress voted to declare our nation’s independence from Great Britain on July 2nd, 1776. Once voted in favor, delegates spent two days drafting a statement in which they formally adopted on July 4th, 1776. The final colony to vote could not do so until July 9th and from there it took 2 weeks to draft the declaration on parchment paper in clear hand. The actual signing of the document occurred on August 2. So Americans celebrate the day that 2/3rd of the 13 colonies “adopted” the Declaration of Independence.

In 1777, the Second Continental Congress approved pyrotechnics (fireworks) use on July 4th every year thereafter. Celebrations continued annually when in 1870 Congress voted to make July 4th a Federal Holiday and in 1941 provisioned it a federal employee paid holiday. Most companies today acknowledge the holiday and give employees paid time off.

There are many legacies or traditions this day has bestowed upon Americans. Family gatherings, cookouts, the use of fireworks, patriotic displays and pomp and circumstance are all traditions we celebrate here. More than 14,000 fireworks displays light up the night skies July 4th. This year, we celebrate with our full color, led landscape lighting by turning our houses red, white and blue. Some turn their boats and boat docks red, white and blue which makes it easy to spot in night waters. If you currently have our lighting and celebrate in style with our full color 9 series landscape lighting, share your pictures with us by sending them to marketing@havenhomelighting.com.
